How to report copyright infringement on MemeStack, and who to send it to.

Email is the fastest route and is monitored. The postal address is provided because the statute requires it, not because it is the quickest way to reach us.

What a notice must contain

To be effective under §512(c)(3)(A), a notification must be a written communication that includes substantially all of the following:

  1. A physical or electronic signature of the copyright owner, or a person authorised to act on their behalf.
  2. Identification of the copyrighted work claimed to have been infringed — or, if multiple works at one site are covered by a single notice, a representative list of them.
  3. Identification of the material claimed to be infringing, with enough detail for us to locate it. A direct link (memestack.ai/gallery/<image-id>) or the image ID is ideal; a description alone often is not.
  4. Your contact information: name, address, telephone number, and email address.
  5. A statement that you have a good-faith belief that the use is not authorised by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
  6. A statement that the information in the notice is accurate, and — under penalty of perjury — that you are the copyright owner or authorised to act on their behalf.

An incomplete notice may not trigger our obligations under the statute. If yours is missing something we will tell you what, rather than ignoring it.

What happens next

  • We remove or disable access to the identified material expeditiously, and confirm to you by email. We respond to notices within 10 business days.
  • We notify the user who uploaded it, and provide them a copy of your notice, including the contact details it contains.
  • We tell them how to file a counter-notification if they believe the removal was a mistake or a misidentification.

Counter-notification

If your material was removed and you believe that was an error or a misidentification, you may send a counter-notification to the same agent address. Under §512(g)(3) it must include your signature, identification of the removed material and where it appeared, a statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good-faith belief it was removed as a result of mistake or misidentification, and your name, address and telephone number.

It must also include a statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the U.S. federal district court for the district where you live — or, if you are outside the United States, of any district in which MemeStack may be found — and that you will accept service of process from the person who filed the original notice.

We forward valid counter-notifications to the original complainant. Unless they notify us that they have filed a court action seeking to restrain the activity, we may restore the material in 10 to 14 business days.

Repeat infringers

We terminate the accounts of repeat infringers in appropriate circumstances. Copyright strikes are recorded against the uploading account, and accumulate alongside our other moderation strikes.

Please do not misuse this process

Under §512(f), anyone who knowingly and materially misrepresents that material is infringing — or that it was removed by mistake — may be liable for damages, including costs and legal fees. A notice is a sworn statement, not a complaint form.

This page is only for copyright

  • Non-consensual intimate imagery or AI deepfakes — a different statute with a 48-hour deadline. Use the takedown form, no account needed.
  • Harassment, spam, or off-topic content — use the “Report” button on the image itself.
  • Anything else contact@memestack.ai. Sending general enquiries to the agent address slows down the notices that belong there.
